My Approach

I have been in private practice for 20 years, with my specialty focusing on individuals resolving historic traumas and women balancing all of the complications of womanhood in a fast paced, demanding world.  My style is informed from my diverse experience.  I have worked in adolescent residential treatment, FBI consulting, an expert witness and a graduate school professorship; all the while working with my private practice clients.  In the last several years, I have been sought out as a corporate consultant and speaker to discuss how our negative experiences and traumas shape our behaviors as high intensity professionals.  I speak to groups about how to fine tune glitches in certain areas of professional excellence based on our unique past experiences.  This C-suite consulting work has evolved into multi-day in-person intensives for my clients looking to maximize therapeutic benefit in a condensed and highly focused period of time.

In all of my therapeutic work I talk about our significant experiences and traumas.  They can be events or messages we internalized long ago about ourselves and often times no longer serve us.  We as humans are brilliantly adaptive, our negative beliefs have often unwittingly led us us to become incredible, impressive humans.  These beliefs though can also hold us back in many ways that may be limiting our happiness: the other side of the proverbial coin.  Many come to me because they have become lopsided in their satisfaction in life due to historic outdated beliefs about how they need to be or who they are. Our nuanced experiences and resulting beliefs are the very things that podcasts and instagram inspiration are just not able to break free of longterm.  They need to be looked at from all angles, honored for serving us when they had to then let rest so we can enjoy our current reality.

I truly believe in my clients and their intrinsic wisdom.  Therapy does not have to last years.  I don't believe it should last for years.  Treatment can exist in a specific time and place then returned to many years later when something feels important to process.  I've maintained relationships with many of my clients for decades, often going from one year to the next until something arises, allowing us to continue seamlessly.

My therapeutic style is active and challenging. I don't tend to sit silently.  My approach melds traditional psychological approaches and life coaching modalities. I feverishly seek out new knowledge from multiple disciplines such as biology, neurology and animal behavior research. My goal is to leverage my 20 years of clinical experience to get clients effectively and efficiently to their desired goals.  I consider the work I do to be art of subtleties learned over my thousands of data points of client experiences and the current science on how human brains process and evolve.

The complexities and often unfelt magnificence I can see in my clients never ceases to inspire and amaze me.  Anyone who is willing to do hard work is already a gift to this World!  I've grown bored of many things in my life but this work....never!

*A note for newcomers to therapy:

We are going to hit the ground running. You don't have to have all of your thoughts organized, jump right in with what is important to share when you walk in and the details will come as they are needed.

                                               xoxo,

                                                   Sarah
